It all started in the 1960s when Klaus Lenhart started thinking about bamboo ski poles, which were not particularly break-proof at the time. After persistent, intensive tinkering and experimenting, he launched the first Leki ski pole in 1970. The brand name is made up of the name of the company founder and the company's headquarters in theGerman town of Kirchheim.
The development did not stop in the years to come. Gradually, poles for cross-country skiing, ski touring, trekking, Nordic walking, trail running and finally cross trail, a fast, sporty form of hiking, were added. In each case, it was important not to bring just any pole onto the market, but a pole that could meet the highest expectations. For this purpose, athlete contracts were signed with the best of their guild. This is why big names like Mikaela Shiffrin, Alexis Pinturault, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, Erik Lesser, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, Pau Capell and many others are part of the Leki athlete team.
Trigger system allows pole and glove to merge
After the development of the Trigger System, improvements were also done on gloves that involved integrated loops. Leki now not only produces these combination gloves, which raise comfort and your energy transfer to a new level, but also gloves without loops. These are optimised for the needs of relevant types of key sports.
Leki's 6 primary values
Even though quality, sustainability and durability have always been an important part of Leki's self-image, Leki wants to set itself apart from fast, short-lived consumption and has therefore formulated six values that the brand wants to pursue in the future:
Enthusiasm - Innovation - Quality - Partnership - Excellence - Responsibility
All Leki employees work with the greatest enthusiasm to be able to provide athletes in core sports with the best poles and gloves. They use Leki poles not only in their working hours, but also in their free time. Many employees are themselves active runners, cross-country skiers, skiers or hikers and can therefore contribute their experience from their free time to the development of new innovations.
For each sport, Leki has come up with new innovations that bring a clear advantage in comfort, performance, sustainability and repairability. The latest innovation to be highlighted is the Aergon Air grip, the Trail Trigger grip or the FX folding system.
To be able to ensure consistently good quality, the overwhelming majority of poles are manufactured in the EU, more precisely in Tachov in the Czech Republic. Quality controls both during production and before delivery are a matter of course, so you can always expect perfect material from Leki.
Tested by professionals and worn around the world
Not only the Leki employees play a major role in the development of these innovations, but also the athlete team, which consists of renowned greats from the respective sports. Athletes who present Leki to the outside world have a unique history and achieve top performances in their respective sports. As a recreational athlete, you benefit from this in particular because you get the opportunity to use the same equipment. Both the contracts for the athletes and the contracts with the partners are designed for long, positive partnerships.
Leki has been taking responsibility for many years. Poles of almost all years can be repaired. Regardless of whether this happens in the workshop or at home, there is always a way to get spare parts and avoid having to buy new ones.
Leki Innovations
The latest innovation is the FX folding system, which allows you to easily replace damaged pole segments without special tools. This means that even more poles can be repaired instead of having to throw them away. In addition, you can adjust the lower segment of the new, foldable trail running poles to the season. So you don't need an extra winter pole.
For trail running, Leki is also launching the Trail Trigger grip. It is particularly light but still offers all the advantages of the Trigger system. You can get into the pole in no time at all with the matching gloves or the supplied trigger strap. At the same time, the power transmission is improved so that you can give everything in the hot competition phases.
In the trekking sector, the well-known Aergon grip has been further developed into Aergon Air. It offers improvements in comfort and an optimised grip angle. In addition, air channels on the inside guarantee that the grip remains pleasantly light. Rubber coatings around the knob give you an optimal grip, no matter where you are.
Even if the new innovations can revolutionise poles in their segment, development at Leki is not over and you can always expect more groundbreaking ideas in the coming years, which are certainly already underway in the development department or in field tests.
